Even Johansen is the real name of Norwegian singer-songwriter performing as Magnet. Johansen draws upon many influences, including folk, pop and electronica. His albums are composed and produced solely by him. He usually performs live sets on his own, using preset loops or creating them as he plays. Initially, Even was a founding member of the Norwegian rock bands Libido and Chocolate Overdose. During his involvement with Libido, he conceived a series of songs he thought were inappropriate for the band. Those he used for his first solo album, Quiet & Still, which was released in 2000 under the alias Magnet everywhere except the United States, where the album was released under his birth name. Johansen's pseudonym originated from when he was a child with anemia. Even was prescribed a special magnetic tattoo on his left shoulder so it could attract iron. So far, Magnet has released four full-length studio albums as well as several singles and EPs. According to his management, he is currently working on a new album for a 2011 release.
